Need to Internet access?

I've heard that you can use your phone as a hotspot to provide access for CarDroid. Dumb question - I'm not exactly sure what can be done with and without Internet access. Can you provide a short list of common applications that require Internet access and a list of ones that don't require it?

Maybe Think of CarDroid as your Android smartphone. Which apps / features can you use without internet?
